I've got the power!

Lights, Cameras, Powertools, ACTION! The first milestone of getting power and water followed the build of a few very non-creative days developing this door to nowhere, following standard guidelines.

Its the secret door to another universe!

Its the secret door to another universe!

Fixed dimensions of an ugly cupboard above a hole; digging in and securing the protective tubes; shelter and insulation under the floor of the house; and installing an earth equalizer and the meter. Having the inspector approve it was a big relief, apparently some of my neighbours had their inspections unsuccesful but it seemed like he was in a better mood today and after a ten minute inspection it was green light!

BUT.. That wasn't me out the woods yet, it was another week until they came with their heavy equipment to actually hook me up. And as it turns out, it wasn't all exactly as they wanted to see it.. A few hickups and asking for some bending the rules later, three men got to work and that same evening, I had power!

Even though I am connecting to the grid, I will still be generating the total electricity needs myself. But since its still an expensive investment to store your own power, I decided to connect to the grid to feed extra electricity generated during the day and use it from the grid when my solar panels arent generating enough in the evenings.

Since I have a green roof, it will not be collecting enough water to feed my needs. In addition, it is difficult to filter it enough for drinking purposes. Therefore, I decided to use rain water for the washing machine and garden, and use grid water for the kitchen sink, toilet sink, and shower.
